清朝雍正年间，一个月黑风高的深夜。直隶总督府后院书房中，残烛摇曳。总督唐执玉仍在执卷读书。这位康熙年间进士出身的直隶总督，一向为官清正廉明，口碑颇佳。他对待案件始终坚持公正无私，不论是白日或是黑夜，他都决不轻易放过任何疑案。
忽然，那纱窗外传来阵阵凄哀的哭声，在寂静的深夜听起来令人心里发毛。唐执玉急唤僮仆开门察看。这小书僮战战兢兢打开了门往后院一看，惊叫一声，便瘫软在地上。唐执玉抖擞精神，仗剑而出，只见夜色树影之下，有一个人跪着，其面绿发红，指甲约有两寸长。这分明是一个厉鬼呀！
唐执玉顿时面色如土，但转念一想：不做亏心事，不怕半夜鬼敲门，更何况我乃堂堂钦命大员，我怎能惧怕区区一个小鬼呢？于是强作镇定，朗声说道：“下跪之鬼，可有冤情？且与本官道来。”那鬼幽幽说道：“我叫冯德生，我生前家住武清县，在经商途中，被强人所杀。我被杀之后，由于武清县令这个昏官抓了个无辜的良民，却任真凶逍遥法外。我久仰大人青天之名，所以今夜打扰，请大人为我伸冤。”
唐执玉急忙追问：“请问那真凶是何人？”那鬼一字一顿地说了十六个字：“河边柳阴里头，你找他。”言毕，就翻墙而去。
第二天一大早，武清县两名差役解送来了一名囚犯到总督府报告凶案。唐-exec-again heard the case, and he was shocked to find that it was indeed the murder of Feng Dechen. The people of Liusi Village were overjoyed by this turn of events, as they knew that justice had finally been served for their murdered neighbor. They praised Tang Exec for his keen mind and bravery in solving such a difficult case.
As news of this story spread throughout China, people began to call Tang Exec "the ghost-busting judge." His reputation grew even greater as more cases were solved with ease by his sharp instincts and clever tactics.
This tale has become legendary among Chinese folk tales as an example of how one man's determination can lead to justice being served even in the face of seemingly supernatural occurrences.
