Summer Qī, a name that echoes through history. Born in the ancient city of Zheng (now Zhengzhou, Henan), she was the daughter of Duke Mu of Zheng and his concubine, Lady Yǎo. Her life is shrouded in mystery; her birth and death dates remain unknown.
The Clearing Away Dust Collection mentions her as "Shào" () - an enigmatic title that hints at her complex identity. Known for her beauty and promiscuity, she has left an indelible mark on history.
Married to Chen's Lord Xiao-Ōrǔzǐ as a child bride after the early death of her first husband, she bore him a son named Xíngshū. When Lord Xiao-Ōrǔzǐ passed away, Summer became the wife of Chen's King Línggōng and had affairs with various high-ranking officials like Kong Níng () and Yíxíngfù (). This led to escalating tensions within Chen's court.
Captured by Chu's King Zhuāngwáng (), she was given to Cuxiǎn Lǎo () as his wife before eventually being sent back to Zheng under false pretenses during Shen Gong Wúchēn 's rebellion against Chu. She later fled with Shen Gong Wúchēn to Jin.
According to legend, Summer possessed extraordinary skills in both sexual arts and yin-yang medicine, maintaining eternal youthfulness even into old age. In Liu Xiá 's Records of Virtuous Women (), it is said that "She held three royal titles but seven noble ones." Though not actually holding royal or marital positions corresponding to these numbers,
her reputation speaks volumes about the allure she held over men during that time period.
The Records attribute this enchantment largely due
to "her exceptional beauty," combined with knowledge
of magical techniques allowing her youthful appearance
to persist even into old age.
